--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok guys Im still weighing my options here with a combo for my 91 LX Coupe. Ive heard your thoughts and opinions about the 351 Swap now lets hear them about the 460 swap............ Ive been doin some research on here about the 460 swaps and I like what Ive read about as much as the 351 swaps. Just trying to keep my options open................

Ive been checking around and there is an ABUNDANCE of used 460/C6 combos for sale in my area out of Lincolns, Trucks, and RVS for $500 and under. I was thinking about maybe a 545 stroker.

Keep in mind this will be a street driven/weekend warrior car, maybe see the track in True Street Events twice a year. Itll be driven for the street fun, to the races, etc. all around just a good car to have fun and raise some h*** with. Probably keep it to 6500rpm max shiftpoint. I still want to run 93 octane. What I want is a good musclecar/hotrod to have fun in......... Can you guys give me advise on a combo??????? Id like to see between 550 and 600hp.

460 (possibly a 545 stroker from CHP or should I wait till later?)
Good aluminum head suggestion? (CJ, SCJ, Kasse P-51, Edelbrock RPM or Victor Jr, TFS A460, or Blue Thunder?)
Intake suggestion?
Camshaft suggestion? (flat tappet, hydraulic, or solid?)
Rocker Arm Suggestion?
Carb size suggestion? (4500 or 4150)
Full exhaust suggestion all the way out the tailpipes?
Fuel Pump Suggestion?
Rebuilt C6 Trans
3:55, 3.73, or 4.10 gears?
MSD Distributor?
Hood size?

Most of the things like lifters and pushrods and the like Im gonna have to buy anyway if I do a 351 swap so Im factoring those in anyway. The only suspension mods done to the car are subframe connectors.

Im tying to budget everything for $10,000 or less. Can this be done if I buy a junkyard motor and trans and build it myself? Will I still be able to use the power sterring pump from the 306?
Will the 460 swap mounts work on the stock Kmember or will I have to get a tubular Kmember? Is there anyting extra the 460 will require that 351 wont???

I talked to a guy tonite who has a 72 460 block bored 30 over ready to be assembled, a seperate 460 motor thats disassembled, and a C6 transmission for $500. Think thats a good deal?

There is no replacement for displacement.. I helped my good friend build a 557 bbf for his 88 ft.. he has a build thread under " big block ready to fire up"... he has all the good stuff in it. Check out the thread and let me know if u have any questions!

I had planned on building one for a coupe I had a while back. Even bought the motor mounts, headers, block, c6 pretty much everything but it got moved to the back burner and I sold off some of the parts. I do however plan on one day having a big block fox. I've still go the headers and the block. There is no replacement for displacement. However it does bring weight, heat, and all that good stuff. I planned on building a 557 stroker. I say go for it! :thumbsup1:

Did he reuse the stock k member or go with a tubular set up?

He used a AJE k member w/ custom engine mounts.

I would deff. recommend a K-member. You need to free up all the weight you can.

And it gives u more room for the headers.

You got a part number for that and what other suspension mods did he do?

He is using stock control arms with moroso drag springs. I don't have a part number but shouldn't be hard to find!

I would use a upr k member with the hooker swap mounts and headers. That's the easiest way to put one in. The AJE k member is good but the big block mounts don't work with the hooker headers they position the engine to low and u would have to build custom headers. So just use a upr member for a 302 and use the hooker swap kit!

any coilovers or anything?

He didn't use coil overs. If it was my car I would have used them but he didn't but the car lanches good. First time at the track with no suspension tuning ran a 6.50 @112 in the 1/8 that was at a idle launch and only turning it to about 5500 rpm

so basically the only thing he used was the k member and drag springs.? He still using stock struts???

Yeah he's using a manual rack and manual brakes he drives the car all over the place with no issues at all!

Cool, does the manual rack turn as easy as regular power steering?
