Anything I should know befoe I remove the smog equipment on my 91AOD? Could someone give me a list of what to remove and where to start? EGR valve and sensor is bad and from what I have seen it seems cheaper to just eliminate it. I also want to remove the smog pump. I have read EGR Delete and Smop Pump Delete posts on other sites until I am blue in the face and no one seems to agree. Does anyone make a comprehensive kit including the EGR delete plate, and plugs for the heads? I am wanting to do this to unclutter the engine bay. I know it's not going to result in an increase in horsepower.
What have you guys done as far as smog equip. removal?
Thanks in advance.

I removed my smog pump, but still have my EGR stuff. I just litterally threw the pump away and got a shorter belt. I got a plug for the line and was done. still have my EGR stuff so I'm no help there.

Okay, removed the smog pump and got a 84.5 belt. Disconnected the hoses from the thermactor pipe and removed. Pulled the thermactor pipe from the back of the heads and man was it a pain to get out from behind the intake. Removed pipe from the h-pipe and will plug that connection on the new h-pipe I will be installing. Plugged the vaccum lines/removed the ones connected to the sensors/sillenoids on the passengers side strut tower. Removed EGR Valve and installed delete plate. Also installed the "dummy" plug into the EGR cannon plug. Question: now that I disconnected the sillenoids on the passenger strut tower what do I do with the connections? Just wrap them up to protect the open cannon plugs? I assume this will send codes, but will it effect drivability. I know I cannot be the only one who has done this. I just want to see what everyone else has removed. Thanks in advance.

No one huh? I don't have a lot of luck getting responses. I guess I ask a lot of stupid questions.
Has anyone removed their TAD/TAB solenoids? If so what do you with the open plugs? I have removed all my smog equipment, EGR and would like to get the solenoids off the strut tower.

I'm actually going the other direction and trying to get the emissions system functioning again! LOL
However, I believe that those solenoids are vacuum controlled, so if you remove them, at a minimum, you should seal the open plugs.
vacuum leak = very bad :twocents:

I've done it before at least 3 times and never had a code thrown or any other problems. I unbolted the check valves from the strut tower and throwed them in the trash. Routed the plugs into the fender well and called it a day. Only way you would get a code is if you didn't get the egr adapter plug, which you did, so you should be fine.

Well on this car I am just trying to clean up the engine bay and get rid of stuff that will cost $ to replace. However, I have kept, bagged and labled everything I am removing just in case down I decide to put it back on down the road. I carefully placed everything in a box. I did block off the EGR hole and purchased that "dummie" plug. I just didn't know what to do with the connectors from the solenoids on the strut tower. I gues I will seal them up somehow and tuck them away. Thanks.
I was able to get my thermactor pipe out, but with the engine in, I can't seem to clean out the holes enough to thread in the bolts. So, I fashioned plates to cover the holes and used the old thermactor pipe bolts to secure them. Do you guys think some Hi-temp gasket sealer between the plate and heads along with bolts will be enough?
Thanks again.

Someone had already done this to my car before I got it. But the selonoids on the strut tower has a plug in them that looks like they came that way. Don't know where they got them though? SORRY I'm no help but at least you know it can be done.

That will be fine as long as you use some good Red RTV or better yet, since you have enough ability to make the plates, go to the auto parts store and get you some gasket material in a sheet and make you some real gaskets. I had my heads off when mine was done so I was able to use the correct plug for the job.

Thanks slipknot, didn't think of the gasket material. I wish I had read this last night or this morning. I just pulled the plates off this afternoon and put some gasket sealer between them. Didn't have any red and I got impatient, so I used some heavy duty black. I guess I'll pull them off next weekend and use some gasket material instead.
