View Full Version : Can't Decide!

Alright guys, I cannot decide on what muffler i want to run. I like the sound of the Flowmasters but want something different. I love the magnaflow on my 4.6 car but think I will miss how loud my flows are. I have heard a lot of good things about Dynomax Bullets but cannot find them on their website. All I can find are the race bullets. Are these the ones every body has? Do they have the annoying drone the flows have? Are race bullets street legal? I change my mind every 15 mins so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

if you are gonna run tailpipes, dont get the race bullets. They will sound like glasspacks. The bullets are fine for like a race car, thats what i run and they are cheap.

What are these going on?

The race bullets are not street legal. I had the local Poe Poe say something to me a few times so i got rid of them. Me, I bought a MAC catback exhaust and fell in love, and then i have bought two sets of mac pro dumps. they sound great. Got mac systems on all my stangs now.

Mac for the win! I've always had flowmasters on all my stangs, except for the svo (dynomax bullet) and after getting my 86 with a mac catback, I will never go back to flowmasters. The macs sound awesome and there isn't the drone on the highway

people say its cheap quality but i dont care.. i love MAC exhaust, and flowmaster. thats probably all i wil ever run on any mustang i own.

IMO dont go with slp if you want that sound mmight as well just straight pipe it. bassini and borla, magnaflow etc etc sound too quiet for the money speaking of money you could have almost an entire exhaust system for the price of one of thier new cat backs

WOW!!! Mac is more popular than I thought!

I have the MAC 3" catback with tailpipes on my 90 LX and I like it pretty dang good.

For kicks I once took it off and replaced it with tiny bullet mufflers and dumps... My car picked up nothing at all at the track...et or mph wise.
I put the catback back on. Sounded better and IMO LX's don't look right without tailpipes.

That told me how good it flows.

i have a full mac system on my 84 as well. only thing most don't like about the mac exhaust
is the flanges on the headers.
pypes makes some nice stuff too.

Visited "midnight stang" this afternoon and seen a Pypes catback and really liked the looks and quality of that system (Thanks Thomas). I am still a big fan of the flow through mufflers as well as the stainless steel, and the Pypes just might be for me! Any one on here run the Pypes:thumbsup1:? Thanks for everyones replies, it seem that the exhaust setup is the hardest decision to make.

Yeah, thats what I have always heard also. Thats why I origanally was thinking Magnaflow, but they're a little too quiet for what I'm looking for. The pypes system was a lot better quality than I expected, very close to the magnaflows.

My 'vert has a full Pypes system with the violator mufflers. Sounds good, although it is pretty loud. Doesn't drone as bad as the flowmaster set up IMO. Have you made a choice?

I am still trying to decide between the Magnaflow and the pypes. I will probably try the pypes violators because I think the magnaflows might be a little too quiet for what I'm looking for. I will definately go with a straight through muffler though.

Yes I am talking about my '89. I have a few other things to do before I can get a new set of mufflers (3g and MarkVIII). It is definately going to be between Magnaflows or Pypes though. Love the magnaflows on my 4.6 but never heard a 5.0 in person with them. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Thanks for the replies fellas:thumbsup1:

If I had my red vert at QS&L last Sat you could have heard them...BBK Shorties, BBK O/R X and Maggies(not the packs).

By the Gaffney meet in Oct it will be Mac 1.75 LTs and Catted X with the same Maggies.

Yes, I run the tips that came with the kit. I'm not crazy about them because the clamp is exposed and it breaks up the flow of the tail pipe (since you can see so much of it). I'd prefer a traditional flowing LX tip, but I'm not as hung up about it now. It's a straight-thru style muffler so flow is excellent, decible level would probably score an 8 out of 10 on the loudness scale(which I prefer), sound quality scores a 9, fit and finish is a 10. It's crazy hard to describe exhaust as it's sooo subjective. Clearly the best is a test drive.

Never heard of a muffler that hinders cam lope, but I could be wrong?

A quick pic that I found from the Foxbody Cruise this year...if I find better ones I'll edit...

- magnaflow exhaust (http://www.allexhaust.com/)

Available in varous diameters including 2.25", 2.5" and 3" and backed MagnaFlow's Lifetime Warranty, there's no reason to go any other route. Be sure to include a set of polished MagnaFlow performance mufflers to finish that truly one-off exhaust system.

I have been looking at this on the magnaflow (http://www.allexhaust.com/) web site and cant seem to find any sound clips. Anyone got a link to them.

When I purchased my '93 LX back in April, it had the MAC Long tube headers with the Magnaflow mufflers w/dumps. I too think that an LX needs tail pipes so the first thing I bought for it was the Flowmaster pipes. I was thinking about switching out the Magnaflows and going with the Flowmaster Supper 44's but people say the like the distinct sound I have now. I too and torn each half hour whether to stay with what I have or go with the Super 44's. I'm thinking turbo sometime in the near future so I know I'll be losing the long tubes but I still can't decide on the muffler. Too many decisions....:dunno:
