I bought a Z spec tranny this weekend at a steal (M-7003-Z). 3rd gear is completely stripped off the speed gear and off the cluster shaft. I can buy the parts to fix it for around $250-300, My question is it worth fixing???? It will be going behind the 347 when the stocker goes. Should I fix it and beat on it or fix it and sell it get the funds up for a TKO of T56 or sell it to someone who want to fix it and make a little money???

Well, its for a street strip 347 coupe. I can't even brake my stock T5 right now, but thats because the weak link in the system is the tires. I bought a set of 26x10.5x15 ET Streets this weekend and looking to have a back up plan in the works. I will lay into it some times but mostly daily driving/ 1/8th mile passes. I might just fix it and sell it and save up for a 6 speed :)

they are not much stronger than the reg. T-5.don't really bring any more money either.it's worth fixing if you are gonna use it but don't expect to make alot off it after you fix it to sell

They are basically just a 2.95 1st gear trans. That is all.

Well I can't afford a TKO or T56 right now. I can afford $300 to fix the busted Z spec, its just a back-up right now because I bought a set of ET Streets and I don't think the stock T5 will handle it. Its either going to be a Z spec or an AOD at this point, as soon as the stocker gives up.

Why don't you not put the et streets on then be easy on your transmission. Save up the rest of the money then buy the trans that you want. This way you already have $300 toward a better trans and not have thrown the money away. If you put the ET streets on you will most likely break the t-5. Yes there are people who run et streets on t-5 but there are a whole lot more who have broken t-5's to show for it.

I agree, the ET Streets are staying in the garage until I get my disc brakes, 3.73's and the 31 spline axles installed, I don't want to ride down the track on 3 wheels and a rear bumper. I just think there might be a market for a used Z-spec for $800-600, espically a fully rebuilt z spec with new syncro's. Maybe I'm wrong.

You might be able to sell it for that but I doubt it, most people will just pay 400 or 500 for a used one. Not knocking you but unless it was built by a reputable shop alot of people wouldn't spend that much when they know they can buy one for half that has never been opened.
