:bump: anyone else in the Cola area have any input or anyone else want to join us ? I'm kinda leaning towards The Flight Deck in Lexington since the menu has something probably everyone will like
so far it's Me and Andy and possibly KB will come down from the upstate (pending work sched)

Imput: The parking at Flight Deck has much to be desired imo. Every time I've been there, it's been slammed & jammed...I'm not up for squeezing my Stang into a spot with the chance of somebody bangin' into the side of it, amen? :)
There's not a good chance of however many of us getting parking spots all together either. Let me stop and think, but a place where the cars would be visible during the meal would be a plus imo. I don't have any million dollar ride, but I hate to let it out of my sight if at all possible...know what I mean Vern? :)
That being said...between the 2 you noted (5 Guys & Flight Deck), 5 Guys is much more suitable, but I'm sure there are a number of other places beyond just those 2 that would suit as well or better...just need to put my thinkin' cap on.
If we can agree on a DATE, then comin' up with a PLACE is the small detail we can figure out.
I'm not for the 24th, as Scott already noted he couldn't be there...if we give him (and Jeremy) enuf time to plan, then the 31st or the 17th will work for more people. Scott also works with a guy who has a Fox (Robert)...he was at the Midlands Get Together @ Scott's place with the Blue Fox.
aHA...how about Rush's which is a 1/2 block from Flight Deck. I'm sure we could arrange to have the spots reserved right there against the road...there's probably about 8 spots or so (?), and I don't think we'd have more than that...it's just a matter of schmoozin' with the Mgr & I'll be glad to do that :) We can keep an eye on the cars while we eat, AND they'll be backed up against the road for GREAT exposure & all lined up for some photos!

It's all about the PARKING Croft in my opinion...we've GOT to be able to reserve "X" number of spots, and THAT'S why it's important to get a real good count by let's say, Jan 12th or so...I need time to schmooooooze with the manager to see if they'd even aCCOModate.
That being said, I can tell you that we're not likely to get Olive Garden to hold off spaces...same with Outback in that multi-infested parking lot, PLUS Outback is too pricey for a guy like me :)
Bellacino's is hidden (no road exposure even if we had 15, and THAT would be a shame! :)
Uno's is not my choice (just an opinion mind ya)...Hudson's is nice, but did they pave enuf of their parking lot? A lot of it was dirt, pot holes and such and could we get 6 or so Stangs backed up to the road there?
All that to say this...Rush's is my 1st choice...GREAT location...VERY likely to get the Mgr to let us rope off some spots, and the menu fits this tight wad's pocket book! :) LOL

I see what ur sayin, but u forget we (my buddys around b-l) do this almost every fri and sat night. Olive Garden there is a huge parking lot rite behind it. Same parking lot Outback is in. Bellacino's there is a long row of parking spots starting from the tennis courts rite beside the building, all the way down on the back side of that scrubs shop. It might be "cool" to get a parking lot roped off, but deff not nessicary. Even at Rushes, there is that big parking lot rite behind it, go after those lil stores are closed and plenty of parking opens up. The largest croud that we have gone out to eat before was about 30 and that was after the Fat Boys when i first meet u. They had plenty of parking. There not my first choice eather but hey its a idea. I was just thinking, that im sure many of us eat fast food during the week, and just the thought of it on the weekend would just make us sick. But if yall wanna do Rushes or something like that sure.
You are correct about Hudson's i forgot about there parking lot, i was pissed when i had to drive my car on it for my brothers pre-wedding dinner thing.
Also whats that place over there by the Bowling alley in lex, beside the library? I cant think of the name, we have gone there several times and there is a parking lot to fit all the cars rite there. like i said these are all just thoughts, just trying to get yall to think out of the box.....

Carolina Wings in Lexington would be good as well as the new 5 Guys in Lexington by the new Target. Both should have ample parking. I vote for after the 16th if at all possible. Alright...let's try to incorporate a short cruise in the mix...yes/no?
If a manager of any of the suggested dining spots is willing to let us rope off "x" number of spots, are they more likely to allow us to park together EARLIER or LATER? We'll be giving them bizz either way, but...
If we met at the restaurant, we could have a better defined time to let the manager know we're comin'. If we cruised FIRST, traffic, etc might not allow us to give the mgr a specific time we'd all be showin' up. If we tell him/her we're gonna be there at 5:00 or whenever, hey...if someone gets there late, then they get there late...once we got all slobbered up & greasy, we could then run a short cruise in/around town? No country crusisin'...we've got to get exPOSURE and make a STATEMENT :) :) If folks are seein' 5, 6, 7 or however many Stangs rumble thru the area, that would be better than to just be flyin' out Hwy 1 on an open stretch of road. Maybe towards Triangle City & then downtown as an after dinner optional cruise?
...just wantin' to get a little windshield time in after (or beFORE) we eat! :)
I'm just wantin' to have it organized enuf instead of like most husbands/wives when they hop in the car...."Ughhhh....where do YOU wanna eat? I dunno...how about YOU? No...it's YOUR choice this time, I picked last time. Ughhhh, then wuddya wanna do when we're done eatin'? Ughhh, I dunno...wuddya YOU wanna do? :) lol

here's one of my thoughts..... do this at a restaurant with a message board where they post the specials.... like Rush's or Sonic ...and see if they will put something like..WELCOME SEFB on it ..,, I also feel a place with road front parking.... nothing like seeing a bunch of foxes grouped up...we'll need to be seen so interest can be generated for the club.... the draw back with Sonic is no warm enclosed area to eat.. but having a bunch of foxes in the bays would look great..... maybe this can be done when it's warmer.
A cruise after sounds good as well..... HOT DONUTS NOW!! .... if the g2g is in Lexington maybe a cruise over to Krispy Kreme ... or atleast cruise down hwy 1 and go under the I-26 overpass... it has excellent acoustics:biglaugh::biglaugh: and usually echoes pretty good when you rev up under it:thumbsup1:
The places chosen to eat and cruise to may not suit everyone.... but we need to start somewhere , share ideas and work to make the next one better...... right?
Rush's and KK have not been chosen yet and are for illustration and suggestion purposes so far ..... more ideas and input.......post it up

Just so everyone is informed, here is what Kevin (Notched) sent via pm:
"...not able to meet on Monday...I'm sure ya'll can hammer out some of the finer details
As far as meetin' at Scott's place...I would lean for a neutral spot (restaurant), and then head on down to KK for dessert~~~yum, yum! Again...my 1st choice is Rush's for whatever that's worth, and that's based on all my precious comments.
If we head to KK, I want a mapped out route that we'd go...not a straight shot if you know what I mean? The ride down there wouldn't have to be extended, but it's always nice to "juice it" goin' down Jarvis Klapman and over the bridge where the jail used to be Even if we headed straight DOWN through downtown, and THEN came back across the Jarvis Klapman bridge? You know...if you're downtown a little and a few blocks up, you used to come down 2 blocks as you approached the prison, then you head in to that nice "S" curve at the prison, then hammer down a wee bit as it straightens out goin' over the bridge.
From there, when you get to 12st street, hang a left and we'll be able to go straight to Krispy Kreme which is right thru Triangle City! In other words...leave Rush's down Hwy 1...we'lll pass under I-26 ...Jarvis Klapman bridge into downdown...left on Main, then over to the street that takes us right back at old prison, into the "S" turn...right back over the Jarvis Klapman, then left to KK You hot rodders can lead the way...I'm slow, so I can bring up the rear!
1. Meet at 5:15 at Rush's (or the restaurant of choice)
2. Snap off a few photos after eating
3. Cruise out about 6:15 (maybe later if we've drawn any crowd & need to sign autographs!) lol
4. Get to Krispy Kreme approx 6:45-7:00
That's my imput! I'll send this to the few who I might know could come, ie; Scott, Jeremy, Hanley, Croft, Andy, Bones, Fakesnake, Wade.
NOW...you guys that know OTHER Foxbody owners (Scott...you need to work on Robert, and Croft, you need to work on Kyle & I'll contact him too)...let's get a commitment from them to come too if we can.
Keep in mind about Krispy Kreme, their parking on the long side of their business can pack out REAL quick! An alternative, OR a 1st choice might be Zestos That's RIGHT IN THE HEART of Triangle City, and the string of businesses across the street has a parking lot that, the businesses will be closed and open spots might be easier obtained.
Either way...if WEATHER PERMITS, I'll be there! "
This doesn't sound too bad, but maybe the times are a little late? This time of year, it will be dark by 5:30. I think if we want exposure with a cruise, it needs to be in the daylight. So, maybe change the times around a bit?
ponie1992
12-19-2008, 02:07 PM
Another pm from Kevin with more ideas:
Scott...you said "lunch time" would work better for you, which would also allow for daylight pics (nuthin' wrong with dusk pics though )...but I'm easy...anytime would work The later the better as far as my preference, but whatever.
If we make it "lunch", could it be as late as 1:00? Makin' a little later than a "normal" lunch hour for a business, I think there will be a better chance of their parking lot clearing out instead of tryin' to roll in during their lunch rush & any manager allowing us to rope off part of their lot.
Either way, just let me know...weather permitiing, I'll be there, and hey...if Robert is easy and flexible, great, but if you need time to work on him to get him to say "yes", then be talkin' it up next time you see him
Gotta go...that's my .02, but I've got some more spare change to add to that if you'd like to make it an even nickle!

Awesome idea struck me on the way home from work today as far as doin' the cruise after we eat...
If you know the area and we do choose to go over the bridge, then back across on Jarvis Klapman, we should pull over and wait till we get no traffic traffic behind us. We'll have a full block or so for us to take ALL THREE LANES! :) You're able to view the old prison area (which is now apartments or whatever). From this spot till you approach the old prison (where the "S" curve begins), the road grades down what would be equivalent to several stories. It was an awesome view when the prison was there, but now there's just boring development! :) Ok...
If we've got at least let's say 6 or more cars, we line up 2 rows deep and take all lanes...THERE ARE 3 FULL LANES FOR 2 FULL BLOCKS UP TO THE "S" CURVE...3 FULL LANES GOIN' ALL THE WAY THRU THE "S" CURVE, and 3 FULL LANES FOR AT LEAST 1/4 - 1/2 MILE AFTER YOU COME OUT OF THE "S" CURVE AND GO BACK ACROSS THE BRIDGE...you feelin' it yet? :) lol
http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u337/ReefBlue_NOTCHED/carsclipart1.gifhttp://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u337/ReefBlue_NOTCHED/carsclipart2.gifhttp://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u337/ReefBlue_NOTCHED/carsclipart1.gif
When the right lane ends a half mile up (due to an exit ramp), that driver pulls in behind the center lane (which is now the right lane), and the left lane moves to the right lane in behind him to have 3 in a row. The 2nd row of cars (and 3rd or more?) will do the same. By the time the last car approaches the area where he (or she?) needs to slide over a lane, we'll have a single lane that will stretch the 6, 7, 8 or however many cars we've got...we'll be riding in single line formation at that point, and we'll have been ridin' 3 abreast up to that point! ;)
That last stretch would then take us to 12th street which is approx 1 mile further. A 1/2 mile up is a traffic light (9th Street), and another 1/2 mile get's us to 12th Street. This is a straight-a-way up to 12th Street, and we'd then be turning left... to either Zestos or Krispy Kreme! :)
Capture the vision...did someone famous once say, "I've got a dream"? LOL :)
Headin' to bed gang...not countin' sheep, countin' Fox Bodies, and oh...Hanley, possibly contact Chip and Stephanie, or Vicky & Steph, as they've got the Foxes. If Chip wanted to get involved, he could help rope off the restaurant parkin' lot :)

Actually, if we DID have someone snap a few pics off, we could run the short routeTWICE...once for a photo shot where we would be in tight formation like the start of a NASCAR race :) About idle speed in tight formation while we're comin' out of the last curve, and then we could circle back around and put a little pedal to the metal :)
The problem with Steph takin' pics, we need her to participate, as she has a Fox doesn't she? If not, her mom (Vicky) does. Like I say, let Chip snap off the pics :)
My video cam isn't workin', but that would be sweet to see 6+ Stangs rollin' out of an "S" curve and juicin' it!

Ok guys, I took a few pics of the parking area in front of Wild Wings off of Harbison Blvd. A few of us met up yesterday and thought this would be an excellent location for our meet. It is right off I-26 and closer to Greenville so the guys up there would be able to come down. There is plenty of parking and I think a lunch time meet would be best for exposure, parking and picture opportunities. Let me know what everyone thinks.

It matters not to me other than parking & exposure...if you think we can get both, you've got my vote. It's not road side exposure like Rush's or Zaxbys though (Zaxbys in West Columbia on Hwy 1).
Now...as far as distance for the Greenville/upstate contingency...if we're to have a short cruise afterwards (and it's the possible route I proposed which would wind up ending in Triangle City @ KK or Zestos), then distance doesn't matter :) I'm game...just hopin' for a good turn out either way.
Lastly...I say bring the mini-van and scrap the Fox! :) You can be the Pace car.

SEE THE MAP BELOW FOR PROPOSED ROUTE
After we load up at Wild Wings, we can load up our Foxes onto the big road! :) The interstate will split after a few miles...we'll be sure to stay LEFT on 126 and NOT curve to the right which is I-26. Viewing these signs driving at lightning speeds (and at night), and not being familiar with Columbia...many a soul has ended up downtown when they meant to stay on 26! LOL
Ok...looking at the map, we'll be on 126 coming in to downtown Columbia (upper left of the map). You'll want to be sure STAY LEFT AGAIN once 126 ends and not accidently get on Huger by mistake (just past the 126 icon on the map). Btw, we should be bookin' down the expressway THREE WIDE ALL THE WAY UP TO THIS POINT TOO! :)
As you stay left, 126 is coming to an end, or rather changing names once it becomes a street...you'll see it, it's Elmwood.
Travel 6 blocks up and we'll turn right on Assembly (marked "48" on the map & in red).
Just past Finley Park, we'll be turning right onto Taylor. If we have a few laggards, we should kinda pull off to the side and regroup before headin' on Taylor...the large post office is there on the right hand corner as you turn. We'll again be ridin' 3 wide once we're on Taylor. TAKE THE 3 LANES TO THE LEFT!!! The right lane will force you to turn right when you reach Huger & you don't want to go in circles :) You'll see on Taylor street that it's marked 1 way with an arrow on the map...that's why we've got 4 full lanes available.
Once we get on Taylor for a block or so, you'll be noticing the road is grading down each block till we reach the bottom which is the "S" curve...neat, especially when they had the prison there years back.
On the map you'll see the road move to the "S" curve...90 degrees left, then 90 degrees to the right. This is where you see Riverfront Park in green on the map.
We're still 1 way traffic and will be all the way through the curve, across the river & just across the bridge is where we'll need to move into 2 wide formation, cause the right lane ends in an exit! :) (Taylor Street you'll see then becomes marked Jarvis Klapman on the map once we come out of the "S" curve & head across the river).Travel up to the next traffic light which is 12th Street 1/2 mile up & go left , and we can stop at Zestos a few blocks up, or go 4 more blocks to Krispy Kreme :) Sound like a plan?

I'm going to say no to this for 2 reasons. 1: I don't think we want that kind of exposure for SEFB and 2: I will have my kids with me and I'm not thrilled with going 3 wide down the interstate at any high rate of speed. We can travel 3 and even 4 wide, but let's be sensible.

Sensible, yes...that doesn't mean at a high rate of speed. Movin' side by side 3 wide isn't problematic at all imo...you ought to drive in New Jersey or other high traffic areas in an 18 wheeler movin' 3 wide at high speeds...can get pretty nervy! :) I don't speed at all btw. We're not talkin' about impeding any traffic either, but where's there a problem riding side by side? But...if you'd like to feel real safe, bring up the rear and make sure we don't lose anyone back there with a flat or a/thing. Someone has to stay back with Quinn to explain to the officer that he really is a nice guy once you get to know him :)

You used the word "bookin" so I just assumed you meant very fast. If not, then we're all good. I don't have a problem with 3 or even 4 wide. :thumbsup1:

Yeah..figure of speech :) I don't light up my tires...chirp 2nd gear...exceed the limit (but by a few mph)...tailgate...etc...pretty calm driver here.
I never used to use my seat belt till it became habit when I drove a semi. I've kept that habit, and to be honest, I never would have believed you if you told me I'd be wearin' a seat belt every time I drove 5 yrs ago! I rarely used my turn signal, but when I got in the big truck, that TOO became a habit :) Ha...I even use it when there's nobody around cause it's so engrained in me :)

Since my post didn't post... Kevin (NOTCHED) brought that to my attention..... I'll re post... to the best I can remember.....
The Batesburg Mafia (The Howard Gang, Croft, Myself and maybe a few others)will be meeting up in B/L then cruising to Lexington .... where we will assemble our forces.... Kevin, Scott, Jeremy and others they may be rounding up..... for ironing out purposes... would it be better for us to collect ourselves at the Food Lion/Books a Million parking lot and cruise over to W/W by way of the dam... or meet up at one of the gas stations at 378/I-20 ?... and which one if so... Exxon/Hardee's(Lex side of 20) or the BP/Amoco (West Cola side of 20) ?Chip, Vickie Stephanie...... do we collect y'all here or will y'all go on over and possibly help Andy out if he need's it ?.......

Copy that, yeah...I don't know how you'd be comin', or rather GETTIN' to Wild Wings...I only assumed you'd be on I-20 and have to pass this way, then up 26 to get there...no?
If you DO come this way, yeah...let's meet at the BP/Amoco on the corner of Cromer Road & 378, but if you don't even COME this way, and will be comin' by way of Hwy through Lexington, we'll be glad to meet you in Lexington a/where, ie; where 378, 6 & 1 connect right there in the heart of town...what would be the most open lot to connect in? Was just thinkin' if you'd take the big roads that we'd have less stop/go traffic there.
I'm flexible :) The Batesburg Mafia will have to come by way of one of those routes, so you let the Columbian Cartel just know :)
As far as Andy needin' help...he can put his game face on if he needs to...you do have one don't ya Nova? :)

Scott...I don't have a visual what's at 6 & I-20, but I know it would be "in route" if we took 6 up into Lexigton to meet Hanley & e/o.
Vickie, Steph, Chip, Gary & whoever else comin' that way, let's meet at the 1st gas station on Hwy 1 on the left just as you pass over I-20. Can't recall the name, but it's right there...also is a very small truck stop that holds maybe 6-8 trucks if you know which one I'm speaking of. We could then get on I-20 to meet up with Scott and whomever, and then all of us take 6 into Lexington to meet up with the Batesburg crew...would that work?
If so, let's plan on meeting there on Hwy 1 & I-20 at what time...would high noon work?

At #6 and I-20, there is an abandoned grocery store. Plenty of space to gather to head to WW. I would be willing to meet there possibly.

Ok...from what I gather, we gots da plan :) I think agreein' on the TIME is the only detail to "iron out"...
A/one wanting to meet at the small gas station/truck stop @ I-20 & Hwy 1 will do so. We'll then leave FROM there to go meet the Batesburg group NO LATER THAN 11:50. We then drive to the Food Lion parking lot in Lexington to meet THAT group, and then we all ride "over the river and through the woods, to grandmothers house..." :)
We should arrive at the Food Lion then by 12:05-12:10 is my guess. Leave the Food Lion by 12:15 and head towards Wild Wings.
I might not be on the board all the much this week, but this looks like a plan to me :) I posted my phone in a PM to most all of the Cola group...can't imagine anything that could come up, but I'll communicate with Hanley by way of phone on the day of the cruise lettin' him know where we are as far as leavin' OUR spot & headin' to Food Lion.
Have a great week e/body...lookin' forward to it, and don't worry about bringin' your wallets...Blacksheep has said he's buyin' for e/one! :) hehe

Hey Scott... I got a kerosene heater you can use !!! :lol1::lol1: ... just take the front passenger seat out and you've got the perfect spot for it....

you're more than welcome to leave your car at my house and ride with someone else if you want... i dont have heat either though :D

lol that makes 3 of us...
Well I lie, I have heat, but my heater core pisses antifreeze in my passenger floor board and tints my windows a little if I use it without a window cracked :thumbsup1:
Not bypassing it until this cold passes tho, I'll stand putting antifreeze in my radiator every 2 weeks till this summer lol

Course with the 160* tstat, double core radiator and 24/7 fan... its not very hot heat anyway... lol... car NEVER goes over 160*
I actually thought yesterday (seriously) about taking some heater hose, running it up under the center console, and running it through an oil cooler or something similar and putting a small 12v fan under it... make my own heater that ISN'T a PITA to replace and hell probably won't ever go bad... lol (and in a mid location in the car)
Only problem I could foresee is possibly not having a defrost, which in mid SC doesn't bother me in the least...

It only takes a couple minutes to bypass, better then having antifreeze leaking on the passenger floorboard.

I already told you that you don't need heat. You live in SC, it doesn't get THAT cold. I don't even use my heat. :taunt:

refilling antifreeze every 2 weeks > freezing my fingers on top of no power steering :)
lol, my cars a pos... its the engine I'm in love with :thumbsup1:
