so ive been looking to do a 5LC on my 84, pretty much the cheapest way possible. I know i can use the hub assembly off a lincoln mark7 and the axles from a ranger. so i guess my questions are
1) what year mark7 or does it not matter
2)what year and what side ranger axles (i know both sides are a different length)
3)do i need to change my struts and spindles for the mark7 hubs to work?
any info would be great on this. i took some sn95 pony wheels on a partial trade, and kinda wanting to put them on my car. thanx

U have to convert to the 87-93 v8 spindals and u can use mark 7 rotors from a 89 with non abs... for the back u need 2 driverside mid 80's ranger axles and drums... from there its all direct bolt on

use the 96 and up steering knuckles for the slide off rotors.. that will accomodate the later model wheels......if you use the older rotors you will be limited to what kind of wheels you can run.....whole rear ends with disc brakes can be bought for about what you will spend finding two people willing to split up two ranger rears.....buying the axles new is not very cost effective either.....with this conversion you can run almost any wheel you want and the cost is not that much different from what you will spend to do it with MarkVII and Ranger stuff.....and less work as you will not have to open the diff to put axles in......pm if you need to

If you use the mark VII rotors the hubs will not fit in the hole for the wheels off of sn-95. I have seen people grind the hole out some to get them to fit, not the best thing to do though.

I had 96 front on my gt the wheels stuck out 2 far if u want the sn stuff use the 94-95 stuff thats what some say. The lincoln rotors do limit u but if u plan on running bigs and little they work just fine

if you use the 96 up lower control arms they do stick out about an extra inch.....keep your fox arms and just use the steering knuckles and brakes from the 96up......the 96 arms are longer but everything else will work

It had fox arms on it and it still stuck out for some reason i put the fox spindal and lincoln rotors on it and was perfect! So i dont know what the deal is... when some said to use the 94-95 spindal i didnt see what the diffrence was to the 96 set up.

im not sure either....what was the back spacing on the wheels?....i know the later arms are longer so i would guess the wheels would be different on the back spacing too...hmmm....i will be doing my sons 4eyed gt over the winte so i will do more comparative measurements then....the disc brake rears are longer too but it matches the front....i like the wider look under the foxes with big back spacing and fat tires all the way around.....

I have the 96 disk rear in the back( the cars in my avitar)... im running a 8 inch rim in the back with 5.5 bs and it fits perfect the fronts r 4 inch rim with a standard offset to use on the fox cars! When i put the front rim on with the 96 spindals the out side edge of the rim was right at the outside edge of the fender so with the tire on it would have stuck outside the fender so im puzzled but im happy with the lincoln swap...

I did the full SN95 front and rear disc and I am running 96 Cobras (17x8) with 245-45-17 on all four. Pretty pleased with how it turned out!

The 94 -95 spindle is different than the 96. The 96 up sticks out about 1/4- 1/2 inch more.

That looks good but not when the wheels stick out a inch past the wheel well! Lol

Whew...where to start. Preface... My coupe and hatch have 94/95 spindles and my 89 vert has '96 spindles. Had the Mark VII setup on two different cars before also.
The 94-95 spindles set the wheel in 1/4" or 8mm for you metric types as compared to the 96+ spindles. If you're running 8" wheels up front or smaller it will matter little which ones you use. Just always keep the stock fox A arm, just change the spindles and you wont have to worry about it sticking out even farther.
Also....if you know where to look and pull the parts yourself you can do it the cheap way with MarkVII rotors/Ranger axles/drums for LESS than $100 total. Trust me..the yards have plenty of 83-92 Rangers/Bronco II's and Aerostars(pass axle on the Aerostar)
But as said there are many wheels that wont work with the tall hub on them... but the hub fits through the hole in the wheel just fine. Sticks out too far is the only problem.
But there are instances where it will work. Friend has American Racing version of the Bullitt wheels with the American Racing center caps.
Worked just fine. But stock bullitts wont,lol..

for the front use 83-92 ranger rotors and dust caps to use the stock spindles thats what I'm running on my 83gt
Best option if you want to do it easy on a pre '87 stang or 4cyl one. :thumbsup1:
