Well from my experience this summer, its not easy.

I ended up using a wiz wheel and had to cut it up like a pizza and chip it out without damaging the crank. A blind whole puller wouldn't work for me.

There is a pilot bearing removal tool that i've seen, but one otehr way i heard is this, take a grease gun, and stick it in the pilot bearing hole. Cover the hole with duct tape around teh grease gun, making a good seal. and then start pumping. The grease will act as hydraulic leverage, and its supposed to pull it out.

Other than that, just take your time, and be carefull not to hurt the crank. But it will comeout, it's just a *****.

I usually use a puller, but have also used the grease method that Adam mentioned above once when I broke a puller during removal and got desparate. Just make sure to take your time, and be CAREFUL with the crank !

Fill the back of th crank full of grease like everyone has said but stick a bolt inside the pilot bearing that fits tight and using a mallet or soft hammer, hammer the bolt into the rear of the crank, it displaces the grease and forces the bearing out.

I used a bar of soap, an extension and a hammer to get mine out. I cut pieces of soap and stuffed them in the hole. Then I beat the extension into the hole and the bearing came out.

Yeah I did the ole chip away not too many months ago myself...the grease idea is a good one...it will push it right out if the seal is tight enough.Once those **** things are in they dont wanna come out!

i usually use my dad and a chisel... seems to work for me. its just a matter of hammer and chiseling it to death with out hurting the crank....

The parts store will rent you a "Blind Bearing Puller". The better ones look like a cylinder that has slots cut in it, the cheaper ones are just a coulple of "fingers".

The cheaper ones don't always work and will pull the bearing apart while leaving the outer race.

I have never found a bearing that the more expensive blind puller will not get out. I have never once got the grease method to work, and I know people for who it has worked fine.

I did the hammer & chisel also. I knocked the inner and rollers out first, then took a small chisel and hammered it between the outer and the crank the race folded right up. Then pulled out the left overs with needle nose pliers. It just takes a lot of patience.
