I traded the s10 for a stang today. i drove my truck to NC and drove the stang back. It's a really nice car and drives and runs great just needs some paint.

so i get ten miles from the house and landrum police pull me over. Tow my car give me $800 worth of tickets. I tell the cop that i want to be a highway patrol man and he says he will make sure they don't suspend my license. He also said that if i get tag and insurance on it before i show up at court he can get the tickets dropped some. He pulled me over because the car has no running lights but they was working when i left nc. We got him to bring the car to my house so we don't have to pay 400 to get it out of impound. I'm pretty pissed right now but i guess i'm gonna have to come up with some dough

Quinn

but on the bright side, the car runs sweet, has heat, weld wheels, e cam, heads worked on, interior is super clean and perfect shape. Once i get it painted it will be a really nice mustang

Sweet looking GT. How long are you going to keep this one? You must have a sign on your cars saying pull me over or something. Good luck getting out of all this crap. Keep your head up.

??? Never heard of gettin' a ticket for an "UNINSURED VEHICLE" after you just bought it?!? That's BALDERDASH! Also, you don't need a "temp tag"...that too is bogus!

If you were in the new car with your insurance card for your other car (reflecting you carry insurance on your vehicle), and you had proof of purchase (bill of sale, be it handwritten or w/ever), there should have been no ticket(s) handed to you.

You've got at least a 7 day window to let your insurance company know of the new purchase, or a "reasonable" amount of time. The insurance the seller had on the car has NOTHING TO DO WITH the situation...he could have DROPPED his coverage months ago and had the car sitting...he's not even a part of the equation...it's whether or not YOU have coverage, and NOT on the new car as you drive it off lot, but on an existing vehicle you have been in posession of for however long.

I've been with State Farm for over 18 years, and I just called my agent to "confirm" what I thought (the above). Now...as far as "no tag", I would hope you would have placed some homemade sign in the back window, OR in lieu of the licence plate that said something to the effect, "No tag...just purchased" or "Tag applied for", etc...

You had no physical lights, or they didn't come on once the sun had gone down? That would have been cause to pull you over, yes, but the other "stuff" is bogus...those will be dropped in a heart beat because that's not the law.

Tell you what. I'll buy the car from you for $800 so that you can pay the tickets and hopefully don't get anymore (taking away the temptation for you to drive it again without insurance, tags or lights). That's just how nice of a guy I am!:lol1:

yes i have insurance on an existing vehicle and yes i had the card with me. The cop would not listen to anything i was telling him and was being very rude. I'm gonna read up on everything before i go to court and protest the hell out of the tickets even if i have to pay the whole amounts i am not going down with out a fight. The lights were working when i left NC but i checked it today and they work but you can barely see it and the car has to be on for them to work. I think they need some new bulbs.

You can call your insurance agent to confirm that for a quick answer, or in addition, you can call the SC Dept of Insurance toll free: 1-800-768-3467 or an attorney's office for that free 1 question phone consult :) lol

Here's a tidbit I came across that I never was aware of...you can actually drive UNINSURED in the state of SC if you pay an annual fee of $550. That fee is paid to the Dept of Public Safety & is used to offset the costs of uninsured motorist coverage and provide education programs for SC consumers.

Don't fret at all...he was tryin' to instill fear in you, and sadly because you were young and he was doin' the intimidation thing. You won't have to argue or fight the fines off...they're not valid from the get-go.

Now...go take another stress buster & burn off some more rubber! :)

It's time to step up Bro... Sorry to hear about it but you are heading into a tailspin. The officer cut you a break because everyday the car was impounded it would keep stacking your bill. Go get the insurance card today whatever it cost, the running lites are a fix a ticket. As for the Temp Tag if it was not expired its legal and the insurance there is no grace period. Most Insurance Co. have a 24 hour # this is to update your coverage. Why would anyone sell a car and let someone drive on their insurance at all ? I'm just giving the best advice to take care of the citations before the court date trust me I know these things. After completed you could walk away with a simple day in court and be clear of any citations. Good luck

that's what i hope. But it did cost me 75 bucks to get it towed home but i would rather pay that then having to pay about 300 to get it out of impound
