My T-5 & rear axle both need rebuilding. I have the money to do one immediately. The other will have to wait for some fundage. The trans still shifts, & isn't making any racket, unless you try to shift it fast or above 3-4k...sounds like just a typical wore out 150k mile T-5. The rear & the trans will both get some love, but, one has to get it first.

The rear end has an axle bearing & the pinion bearing making noise. While its apart, I'm going to rebuild the trac-loc with carbon fiber clutches. I am also going to replace the axles with the fox length axles I've had sitting in storage for 8 months...this means alittle extra money for the north racecars brackets. The roaring sound from the rear is very noticeable & most annoying.

So, all that said, which do I fix first?

Oh yeah, I already picked up the T-5 rebuild kit from Justin...the only reason its not been done already is because the guy I had lined up to do it has some health problems & is unable to do it right now.

2 questions come to mind............how long has the rear been whining and are there any leaks from the rear? if there are any leaks.......trans would have to wait......and if the noise is really loud.....the trans would have to wait

Prob just the front pinion bearing in the rear going/gone bad. Easy swap. Don't even need to remove the cover.

Why not just do the rear first, and see what Trai wants to rebuild the tranny for you since you already have the kit ?!?!

Thanks for the input y'all. Now, to answer your questions...

The pinion bearing has been whining for a while... but, the axle bearing has recently started its racket. When we did the 5lug, we replaced the axle seals, & both are leaking a very very small amount....which they've done since installation. We would've done the axle bearings then too, but, we didn't have a slide hammer. The noise is pretty loud...its noticeable above the exhaust in & out of the car.....& my car is pretty freakin loud.

Why not just do the rear first, and see what Trai wants to rebuild the tranny for you since you already have the kit ?!?!

who's Trai?

Thats not totally true.there are 2 bearing on the pinion,1 inside the rear and 1 outside.they both need to be changed along with the carrier bearings and axle bearing.
