If so, how well did it stand up? I want black, but don't have black interior funds.... Unless you folks have some tips on finding black interior reasonably priced...

i consider myself to be an expert at interior dye...

i use the duplocolor flat black...it actually comes out in the factory sheen..

its half the price of the CJ pony and late model stuff and just as good....GOOD PREP AND LIGHT COATS ARE KEY

Does the dye soak in well? I really don't want to accidentally drop my keys and scratch my plastics :thumbsdown1:

I'm fixing to start on mine this week as well. Wondering how it's going to hold up, I'm gonna try and go back as close to the oem grey as I can but everything I'm reading it's all about taking your time and the prep work getting it good and clean. Anyone got some black or grey tweed? Need some grey for mine and black for another fox, just enough to cover the door panel inserts and rear speaker grill where the oem grill cloth use to be.

Anyone had any luck with the duplicolor vinyl paints? I know black should be a easy match but the grey is what concerns me. Duplicolor only has like two colors of grey to choose from.

as long as you prep it good and apply thin coats, it wont chip

We have a 92' Limited Vert...which is red and came with white top and interior...the previous owner..replaced the top with a black one and dyed all the interior black...It all turned out real nice...if you did not know how the car was supposed to come you would swear it was factory

i used SEM landau black dye on mine and its holding up really well. I scuffed all the panels with a scotch brite pad, then wiped them with laquer thinner, about 4 or 5 light coats and they are as good as new. The dye is around $14 a can where i buy mine from but the durability of it is better than the dupli color from my experience. I have some pics in my build log. http://southeasternfoxbodies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12123

Like everyone else has posted, it's all in the prep work. You can also use mineral spirits to clean the plastics before spraying.

My interior is a testament to prep work. The previous owner dyed the interior black and did a horrible job. It has bubbles, chips and scratches. If you look at it funny, another bubble appears.

I've used SEM paint before. It's around $12-$14 a can depending on where you buy it. It holds up well, but like everyone else has stated, it's all in the prep work, then spray several thin coates.

I used fabric dye for my seatbelts. (It's like $2.00 a box at Wal-Mart or any craftstore)
