I just picked up an 88 ex-4cyl car. It currently has an old flat tappet 351w in. I'll know the year shortly when it's pulled (unless any of you find folks know how to decipher the codes in the lifter valley).
Anyways, it still has the old 4cyl harness and such so that will be coming out. My goal is to build a 351 based engine... Either 357 or stroker depending on if I can budget in heads worthy of the cubes and a turbo. I'd like to safely and dependably make 500-600rwhp on pump gas. Now, should I get a factory mass air harness and ECU and piggy back that with twEEcer or a PMS or find a standalone management system? I'll be a square one with NO harness in it what so ever very shortly and if the potential of the car can be best achieved by stepping away from factory style stuff, now would be the time to figure that out and plan/budget for it.
So to make a long story short.....
What tuning systems would be my best bet to run with, without running myself ashore financially? What do you use for your high horsepower street cars? There's a tuner locally with a dyno that has nothing but good credibility and I'm willing to pay his rates. But getting the car up and running with a baseline will be all on me.
Thanks in advance guys!
