Here is a little reading, and don't believe all the hype about different mufflers.

How is a muffler going to discriminate between a Ford or Chevy motor?:lol1::lol1::lol1:

Keep in mind that the only Flowmaster muffler used in this test was one that nobody would typically install on a Mustang... their SUV muffler. For the test, Flowmaster chose to send in something other than their most popular designs for Mustangs, so we still don't know how the 2-chamber, 40 series, or 50 series Flowmasters for Mustangs would compare in a head-to-head challange with the rest of the popular choices. :dunno:

:yeahthat: I agree. Honestly I have never associated mufflers with performance, I just always thought Mustangs = Flowmasters!! No mistaking the sound.

On a street car, you can't beat the sound of a Flowmaster period... So what if you give up 3hp, if your that worried about the hp, you'd be putting bullets on it anyway...I've heard some of the other mufflers, and they sound decent. But other than wanting to be different from everyone else that has a Mustang, you can't beat the way a Flowmaster sounds. Just my .02...

So are these comparisons with or w/o tailpipes?
I have plans to go with 3" Flow Dumps with 1 3/4 Hooker LT's
for my next 347 build.
A recent thread here highlight's a Charcoal Grey Hatch with them
(can't remember member's name now) but car is a rocket down the track
numbers have been withheld though.

You probably wouldn't notice much difference. I'd say offset the loss by getting an electric waterpump and rad fan. I just put ford racing gt40p shorties, bbk off road h and dumped super 44 mufflers and it sounds real good. I haven't put my tips on yet, so not yet sure how that may affect the sound. I do agree with everyone else though flowmasters and mustangs are like peanut butter and jelly.

mac pro dumps and you just dropped 20 pounds! should be good for a couple of HP. the pro dumps seem to be very large. dont know if that hurts. i will take pics of them side by side today

flowmaster is on left, mac pro dumps on right. the pro dump is actually lighter then the flowmaster a good bit so even extra fat dropped. just took it out for a first drive and the macs opened up really well. BUT LOUD AS HELL!!! not too loud though :yes1:

not sure about how well or not they work on a fox, but FWIW-
I run the old flowmaster 30 series "top ten shootout" muffs on my 66 with dumps....3 inchers. Ive run it thru the muffs with cutouts closed, and then open headers on the same night many times....the timeslips didnt change, and it picked up one measly mph...probably due to the weight of the exhaust alone.
always thought they were a decent piece. After reading these replies it has me wondering:yes1:
I ran terminators on my 85 GT and loved them! nasty 'gutter pipe' sound!
anyone else ever run those?

power or not..... nothing sounds as nice as a flow imho, especially on a fox!!!

You just can't beat Flowmasters on a Mustang...they just go together. Fussing over 3hp is silly...pick what you think sounds best & run 'em!

I've seen a big jump in power on a hemi cuda at the Virginia Fall Classic last year. His Cuda made 460 something HP at the wheels with is exhaust hooked up but about 10 minutes later with open headers he obtained about 35 more. Compared to a stock 5.0 I could see maybe a 10-15 hp difference. The flowmasters on a 5.0 compared to a stock style mufflers in my opinion would be minimal power wise. I'd rather roll out with the Flows if you like the sound.

I'm on the side of the fence that doesn't think twice about flowmasters, they are on my car cause they were on it when I got it. they will be swapped to Magnaflow's or Spintechs (recently leaning toward the later)

Baker7598 is running spintech on his car and I just LOVE the sound,

true, flowmasters are muscle, but that Spintech set up is so nasty.

In my opinion, theres nothin to beat the sound of some flowmaster single chambers dumped....the rumble is just amazing! As for the pro dumps, im really thinking about buying some and trying them out as my buddy runs the mac pro chamber mid pipe with mac flowpaths on his 01 cobra and it sounds great! but then again thats on a 4.6, not a 5.0 lol :thumbsup1:

Has anyone tried those Flowtech Warlock mufflers? Summit has them in a "pro dump" set up and they are the same price as Macs (about $189). I would like to know how they sound. I'm building a budget car with turndowns and I was looking at Macs, but I don't like their headers. Flowtech has nice headers and their turndown setup is priced right.

Ghl bullets or corsa.

No drone , quiet as hell at idle , scream like open exhaust when wide open.

Of course you have to pay to play with them tho. They are not cheap but if you hate that drone bs of flows then they are worth it.

I've ran Warlocks before. They sound like flowmasters but a small bit more quiet. When you pull the plug out for the straight through feature they wake up big time. Wide open exhaust sound. I really wasn't impressed with them. I want the cut out before the cats and mufflers.

I run Macs and will never put a flowmaster on my vehicle again. But I did hear one car with flowmasters that just impressed me to no end. It was a 04 GT that was a Saleen clone with a 5.4 Navigator motor and single chamber flows. Best sounding modular motor I've ever heard. Still have yet to hear anything better than it.

I know this is an old post but... That isn't enough to say it was the mufflers. That little time could have been the weather, track conditions, etc, etc, etc.

With that said I like the Mac mufflers. Have the 3" catback on my coupe. Took the whole catback off and put on a set of tiny bullet like mufflers to see if there was any difference. Didn't make a bit of difference in time or mph over running the whole 3" catback. Made me a believer in how well the Mac mufflers flow.

Have the Pypes Violator catback on my vert. Was extremely loud when I had longtubes and a X pipe. Just right though behind a turbo setup. Good straight through muffler.

I'm runnin BBK shorties, Pypes X pipe, and Pypes Violators dumped and I used to have flows. It sounds better in my opinion than the flows. Feels a little quicker (seat of the pants wise!) and no more of the awful 60 mph drone!! With the prices that Pypes offers i just couldn't resist! Pypes ftw!

Sounds similar to what I'm leaning towards. I have BBK equal lengths, I'll be using a pypes x pipe with thier small convertors and I havent decided on mufflers yet.

Is your set up very loud? Is that a straight thru or chambered muffler?

Flowmasters :thumbsup1:

Everything else :thumbsdown1:

J/K

:lol1::lol1::lol1: seriously though, This has been a debate for years now. All I can say is everyone has there own opinion on the matter. Me personally, I could care less if the flowmaster isnt the highest rated HP muffler. I love the sound, and have had them on everything from my trucks to my Mustangs. Heak, I even had them on my old LT1 camaro.

My opinion is that a Mustang and Flowmasters just sound perfect together.

I've tried the Mac's as well, I personally didnt like them, I went back to the Flowmasters.

It's Pretty loud at WOT but just crusin not bad at all! It's a str8 thru muffler.

Nobody is debating that flows sound good but the drone is god awful. **** gives me a headache.

Get some corsa db blacks. They are high but they sound focking RAW wide open and quiet at idle/cruise with no drone. Best of both worlds.

I have to say, one of my favorite sounding rides was my 331ci coupe with 1 3/4 Mac Longtubes with a three inch pro chamber and 3 inch single chamber flows..... It was very hollow and race car-esque sounding...

I understand what you are saying as well. Especially when I had my Flowmasters turned down right before the rear axle, wow it was almost too loud. I ended up running them back out the rear. Wasnt as bad then.
