well i'll be building a motor this winter and found a guy with a good deal on some 1.7 roller rockers, i had planned on using 1.6's but thought ide ask for some more experienced opinions.
budget 347 shortblock
10.5:1 compression
afr165s (yes im losing a few hp to the 185s, but ive already got them)
xe282hr
performer II
im worried about piston to valve clearance, but should i be?
so 1.6 or 1.7s? have to be stud mount...

whats the lift on the cam and what kind of pistons .

Thats where you're going to find out if you can run the 1.7 or not. I cant remember the lift figure on the 282HR, but I think it's close to .600 if I'm not mistaken, so you're going to have to have some fairly healthy valve reliefs in those slugs if you want to use the 1.7's...

can you recommend a good budget 347 kit? looking for something balanced for under a grand.

I bought an Eagle kit from Jegs. It was a good kit to my eyes. They did have hyper pistons so not too much spray. I think it was like $1200 or so balanced and it came with a flywheel or flexplate for you app. and a damper.
I should be able to get you something along those lines, and under that price.......
