My friend has an older polished paxton supercharger and he is wanting to sell it. He is asking $900.00 for it and I am wanting to know if this is a good deal. The head unit was just rebuilt 1500 miles ago and it comes with all the tubing and the brackets for it and 2 extra pullies. I am new to the supercharger game and any info is appreciated. Is the paxton supercharger a good unit? Thanks in advance for your help.

what kind of paxton is it? Novi 1000, Novi 2000 etc.... how old are we talkin? like 1-5 years, or 10-15 years? it really makes a diff IMO. it sounds like a good deal if its not to old.

I think it is from the early 90's.

It's most likely a SN 89,or SN 93. The novi series didn't come out until the late 90's. It's a great little supercharger, I wouldn't expect more then 5-9 lbs tops out of it though.

It's a SN89 model. I remember him saying that. I not looking for any huge boost numbers because I will have a stock bottom end. So you think this is a good deal.

If the head unit is still in good shape (I know you said it was rebuilt 1,500 miles ago), then I would say it's a fair price.

I have one other? How long does a head unit last until it needs to be rebuilt? Thanks for your help so far.:thumbsup1:

Chris, a friend of mine has one that sounds just like it. He made 353 RWHP at Amazon. He had a stock mass air and it was running very rich. He could have made more HP had he changed the mass air but if it is the samething, I would say it is worth the money as long as he throws everything in.

He is going to throw everything in with it. I am going to have GT 40 intake and GT40P heads with 1.7 rockers and a Trick Flow stage 1 cam. I also am going to have a 255 fuel pump and 30# injectors, Pro M mass air meter, and a 70 mm throttle body. Do you think it will run pretty strong with all my modifications. Thanks again.

Should make about 400 depending on how much boost. you can do 10psi safe if ya get it there. I make 392HP @ 12psi with my V1 S-Trim Vortech and I still have Stock (OE) bottom end and heads. Only thing i would suggest would be step up to 42# Injectors, I have the 30's on mine, and im at 90% Duty Cycle (almost fully open all the time) and I only have an E-Cam. I believe the trick flow stage 1 is tad more aggressive cam so it will need more fuel, esp with the bigger heads. But for $900 I wouldn't pass that up.

8 pds is about it for that s/c.also a pully change on them will spell death for it.they work great with stock pullies but it's best to leave them that way.if you are getting all that stuff for 900.00 i would jump on it.

Back years and years ago I had a Paxton SN-89. Good little unit. Leaked oil like crazy if you over filled the thing. It has an oil filler cap on the side and uses ATF for lubrication. Don't expet much boost maybe 5-6lbs. And like nasty said, pulley = death. With HCI you might expect upper 3 maybe 400 hp. Good luck.

thats a good price, especially if you are getting extra stuff. i wouldnt push no more than 6-7 lbs. just to be on the safe side.

if your looking to get in the boost game an dont have much money then id say " why havent you installed it yet?"
from there you can always upgrade later as the money permits.

I had one few years back....Fun at first then became a nightmare....
Really can't turn them much over 5500 because of the ball bearing style they use....
I had it Rebuilt , (not by Paxton) it fell apart first time back on the car. and locked up cold turkey....... sent it back for another rebuild then I sold it........nightmare started....was not good.

Loved my Novi 1000, great little blower, 401 ft-lbs, 412 hp to the wheels. Sitting in a box trying to find a new home to make someone else happy now.
