I have a 1989 LX and need help on what wheels to put on it and what back spacing will work. I see the tail pipes are close to the rear tires now and don't want them to rubb the rear quarters...thanks for any help

15x8's with 5.5" back-spacing will go on it. But i had to massage the tail pipes. I guess that depends on which cat-back you have. I have the Flowmaster cat-back. You can also do a 15x10 with a 6" backspace, but will require massaging the inner fender and possibly rolling the fender lip.

You'll want to address that before you drive it much. I almost ruined a BRAND NEW M/T Drag Radial before i knew it. If it's close with the car off the ground, it'll rub when it's going down the road.

I think the reason yours doesn't rub is because your tire don't have much sidewall. I just know my car with a 15x8 Weld Draglite and a 275/50/15 gave me issue's with my tailpipes. Maybe your wheels have a different offset than the Welds i have im not sure. I know from experience on my car with the wheels i have noted.

on the 87 im running 18x10s. with a 275/40/18. +22(or 24?)mm offset, beat inner, cut the outers with a die grinder. the tires tuck up inside the car with no problems.

Not all tailpipes route the same. My car had a MAC cat back when i bought it, and the stock pony wheels with DRs were really close to the tailpipes. I went to a Flowmaster catback, and the tailpipes are bent differently, and i can fit my whole hand between the tire and tailpipe with a 10" wheel and 275/50 DR.

also keep in mind the width and the profile of the tire play a big part...the tire is usually what rubs, not the rim itself.

Your car looks killer would love to get wheels like the but think I might have rubbing with the tail pipes. I just put a Flow Master system fron CJ Pony and I might have about 3" to my tires....:thumbsup1::thumbsup1:
