Well i got the passenger side in with no problems. So that gave me lots of confidence going to the drivers side, and now that confidence is gone!lol
The main problem is, my car is not movable right now cause i have the rear out.
The front is on ramps, im thinking it should be higher to get it in from underneath, but i just cant seem to with the motor jacked up either. And i cant jack up the car anymore due to where it is on my driveway(complicated.lol)

The M/C is off and steering shaft is moved over. Im wondering If i jack it up as much as i can and remove the engine mount if i can slide it down from the top. The engine mount seemed to be the only thing in the way... Im just brainstorming and trying to get some ideas.

Thanks

what kind of lt's are they? btw it's always better to just unbolt the motor mount and get the header in place with 2 bolts and then bolt the motor mount back up. I know my bbk header's they went rite in.

They are the summit/flowtech brand(cheapies i got in a trade) i welded them up at the slip joints though cause i didnt want any LEAKS!
So your saying it would be helpful to remove the mount?
I have an engine hoist and everything, i just cant use it cause of the way my car is positioned in my drive way, especially being that its not a very flat driveway... So im trying to figure a way to get them in without moving the car...

Thanks

can you get a block of wood on a floor jack under your oil pan, i hate doin it this way but if you can get a jack with a block on it you can lift you motor by the oil pan high enough to get the motor mount out.

Yea ive done that. But once i get the motor up in the air, Too High IMO it starts to shift, i think i just need to wait till i get my tranny in it so its more stable, or until i can get a engine hoist on it.

that would be a good idea too, i have always left one motor mount hooked up so it wouldnt shift, i had a set of the summit headers oncer and they were a pia to get to go in. good luck with your install. :thumbsup1:

interesting. on my 86, it already had long tubes. i pulled them off yesterday, the drivers slide slipped right out, but i had to jack up the engine to get the passenger side off...

huh thats funny

well i wouldnt go buy my experience.lol cause how im working on it isnt the best way. I need the car in the air more, and i really cant jack up the motor. But you will definitely need to jack the motor to do both sides. The passenger side goes in a lot easier. Ill let you know how i make out with the drivers side. Plus i welded up the tubes, i dont know if you plan on doing that, but you wouldnt have all the trouble i am if you use the slip joints...

If you welded the #8 pipe then you might have to remove the steering shaft As this pipe goes around the shaft when it meet the header.
These are Identical to the "Flowtechs" i had before going to BBK

Notice How pipe leads to the fender then downwards wrapping the steering shaft

Interesting, thanks for the pic. I will prolly have to take that out then. I tried but that bolt was pretty snug.

yeah. you're gonna have to pull the shaft. its going to be very awkward if you welded the slip on connector that goes around the steering shaft. i thought you meant you just touched up the welds around the traditional collector.

the whole point of a slip shaft is to clear the steering shaft. putting the steering shaft in with the header there will be interesting... i replaced my steering shaft while the header was out and that was fun enough for me.

Well i just got the shaft out, and it came out really easy, which i wasnt expecting, there seems to be alot more room. Im going to wait till i get the tranny back in until i try it again. I think i can manuever everything to work...

Will do, it might be kinda hard to weld them up once they are in though...

Can't imagine the engine needs to be jacked up much to gain clearance. Where in CLT are you? I could lend a hand if you need one...maybe a second jack would help??

In Huntersville to be exact, exit 25 of i77. You?
Ive got one good jack and then a little one under the bellhousing. Now that im looking at it some more after i cleared my head, its looking like i can get it in from the top. once i get the tranny back in, ill lift the motor take off the engine mount(needs to be replaced anyways) and try that... We'll see...

i wouldnt weld them. period. you could put a wrap and some clams around the joint if you're super worried about an exhaust leak. but at the point the gases should have enough velocity to not want to come back out the joint. not to mention the heating and cooling of the pipes heating them together.

you could use some copper rtv.
