3.73's or 4.10's ???

I already have a set of 3.73's ready to be put in, just waiting on a set of axles. So I can do the job correct the first time.:yes1:

My car has an AOD and is my daily driver, soon to have a H/C/I combo installed also.

So lets here some opinions. Should I go with the 3.73's or step up to the 4.10's?

Something is telling me to sell the 3.73's and get a set of 4.10's.:yes1:

My 89 I use to have had 3.73's. And it didn't seem like it had enough bottom end power. It was a built AOD with a 3,200 stall speed converter. Everyone thought I had 3.55's.

I guess I could always put 3.90's in.

4:10's or even 4:30's....with the AOD the first gear is 2.61......It can certainly benifit from the extra gear......and if you go anything bigger than a 3:73,and dont do the H/C/I ,I'd still consider a looser converter......seems O.D and low gears dont like each other too well,when the stock converter is as tight as it is

If it's you everyday car i would go 4.10 but if you have another ride 4.30

my new gt has 3.73 and the purple car had 4.10's. I would go with atleast 4.10's but not much lower if you drive on the highway alot

After driving my car with the 4.56 gears in it I love them. Its the ultimate gear for ripping up the streets. BUT for a daily driver I'd probably go 4.10's. Unless you drive miles and miles a day.

I'm sure you know my answer. Don't fear the Gear! will be perfect especially with the H/C/I package. If you put 3.90s in the car, I'll beat you silly. It is a wasted gear as the difference between the 3.73 and 4.10 is really minimal as is.

I really think its up to you. IMO it all depends on what you wanna go with, and what are you goals with your car. If your stayin NA, and dont really go to the track, and kill it every ounce and a while. Then 3.73 is the way to go, if you wanna put a SC on, the 3.73 is the way to go. But if you wanna go turbo, then 3.55 is the max i would put in it. But if you are always finding your self at the track, and finding every lil import you can find and breakin it off in their ass, and you really dont car about gas millage, then hell go 4.10's. or even bigger, But i would not suggest it, if your goin FI. My buddy has a 98 cobra with a vortech and 4.30's and he hates them. Sure its a 5-speed. But still, thats just wayyyy to big a gear for a SC car. IMO

i can only tell you from personal exp. i have 373's in mine and feels just about right. it has been my daily driver for 3 yrs. its gets "decent" mileage for long trips (over 600 miles one way, and a few 300+) and still does well at the track. i think anything higher would kill you on a daily driver. i drove my car some long distance runs as well as the daily trip and i like the 373's. but like some said most of it is personal opinion.

The "Rattle Trap" will be stepping up here soon also. Going from 2.73 to 3.55s. I know, I know...don't fear the gear, but remember it's my DD and I do need some kind of MPG also.

I still got 21-22 MPG on the highway in my 89 with 3.73's.:yes1:

Stock or near stock mustangs get better gas mileage with 3.73's+. As the 2.73's lug the motor to low in the rpms, and waste fuel. It has more to do with what kind of setup you are building, and it's powerband. No one knows for sure what gear you need without knowing all the variables. If it's basically a bolt on car, and rpms kept below 5,500 then go with 4.10's. If the car is on the heavy side, try the 4.30's. If it's light, and rpms are 6K+, then the 4.30's are the better choice also.

So Greg, if I go with lets say a set of AFR 165's undecided cam, have you port my GT40 intake. Then I should go with a set of 4.10's? This will be my daily driver. Maybe down the road, throw some form of power adder on also.

the way my car sits now, i get pretty close to have to go into 4th in the 1/8th mile. so with 4.10s i'd have to shift into 4th near the traps and slow me down a hair.

and bones, if you get 3.55s then you are gheyer than hiv!!! :yes1:
