so I get this months 5.0 mag and they have a article on making a pretty much stock 5.0 run 12's and not even low 12's (12.99). and they are pretty excited about it to. But to me I would be embarrased to run 12's, expecially after owning the 03 cobra. which is partly the reason I wont run my car at the track until I make it fast. (the other part is I'm scarred it will fall apart lol) but is there anyone else who would be happy with 12's?

i guess that wouldn't be to bad, my purple car was a stock 5.0 with a gear and bigger injectors and the best i could get it was 9.30's in 8th with street tires. Was it a foxbody or 94 or 95?

A 9.30 in the 1/8 would convert to around a 14.50 in the 1/4.

A N/A 12 second Fox is very respectful, IMO. Especially a Daily Driver.

I believe the record for a True Stock mustang is 12.21 or so.....I think only mods that were allowed is a gear, and mufflers.....still has to retain cats stock headers, and all factory pieces.....A high 12 all factory is really pretty good.....but of course,we all have been subjected to horsepower........where 12 are basicly your bolt on crowd.....(no disrespect intended) but Around here,if you dont have a 5 second 1/8th mile car,you have nothing impressive:sad1:

In my oppion 8's or lower is a fast car for a street car. And by street I mean full interior heat preferable with A/C.

With a 12 second car you have something thing that will beat 95% of all the cars you see driving around.

I know how you feel Josh. It's hard going from a 500 hp car to a H/C/I foxbody. When my car is done with the turbo setup I want to go with I will be happy with a low 7 sec 1/8 and low 11 sec 1/4 with full interior and A/C and stereo.

There is nothing to be ashamed of running 12's -
That was my goal with my daily driven (30 miles to work each day) pump gas car. I still have stock bottom end, heavy GT 40 heads and slug AOD- for that a 12.99 is not bad at all-

Now when you compare that with my hubby's car which is faster I seem slow- but for me I am content a while anyways..........
It's all in what you build it for- but be proud of whatever you have!!!!

see I have the same feelings that chuck has. if its not running a balls out time then your not really fast. but thats just my .02. I want to run at least 10.50 is the 1/4 with ac, stereo, and heat. but I know once that happens (read: win lottery) then I will probably want 9's. but I guess my thought process has just been skewed by all the fast cars I see at the track or read about. I just didnt know if people thought it was "fast" or not expecially since I have always had mod motor cars and only really saw fast foxs at the track days.

i know its fun to do with a good 60ft and low hp. im mid 12's with only 248 rwhp. but because the car leaves hard its still fun. i guess what im trying to say is a low hp car that 60fts good than a high hp car that has to be babied of the line.

Obviously if you're wantin' a "FAST" car, then hey...by all means, get all you can get right? Install a blower, w/ever to make it go fast. Like Rockefeller I think it was who said about, "How much money do you need?" ...he replied, "Just one more dollar" :)

Like speed...if s/one is consumed with SPEED and goin' FAST, I'm sure another 10th off the time is great. For me...it's not about the time.

Previous owner ran it 12.77 in the 1/4 mile, and had an 1/8 mile best of 8.08 @ 83.49mph. Good enuf for me...in due time I might do sumthin' with it to help it eek out a better time, but I don't run it, so it's not an immediate need for me. For a basically STOCK engine, runnin' in the 12's is commendable.

Defentition of fast street car....watched this weekend a friend of mine......302 stock bottom end, (never been into) AFR heads, cam,Holley intake.... T-76,AOD went 5.92 @ 118 in 1/8th..it still retains heat,A/C,full interior, and is driven quite often on the streets, knocking down 20mpg......sure its on "borrowed" time,so far over 100 passes and living.......Oh and it made right at 650RWHP.......Indeed its insane, but thats the street cars around here...How do you mess with that???

I guess if your last car was a Terminator Cobra, going to a stock foxbody would def not be fast. Heck.......I'd be happy with 13.5's with my GT, but then again my car is not a coupe, has an AOD trans, 2.73 rear gear and all stock equipment is still there. When I did my 1/8 to 1/4 conversion it said my 1/4 mile time was in the 16.00's (16.40 to be exact), not fast at all.
Sub 12 times in a foxbody without having to break the bank would be awesome, just depends on what you are after. My personal goal is to retain full streetability (heat/air cond/ radio/ maybe even emissions control parts) run in the 13's and do it all for under 6k including my cost of the vehicle. I know I've got ways to go, but it can be done.
Wouldn't it be cool to have your car run in the 12's and do it for less than it cost to get a Cobra? I think it would so good luck in your speed goals for your car.....enough time and $$$$$ and just about anything is possible

:thumbsup1:

sweet ride chuck!

wayne I agree it takes time and money, neither of which I have. I just never realized that foxes started out this slow. they were always this mythical creature that was always fast and sounded mean as hell. but we all have to start somewhere I guess.

You can easily get into the 12's for less than 6 grand. Here is my brother in law setup.

GT40P heads -$300
Cobra intake - $300 to $400
Wet Nitrous kit - 300 to 600

His car has heat, a/c and interior. Runs a 7.9 all day long on a 170 wet shot. We are changing it to a plate kit to go to a 200 shot safely.

you can make a 5.0 car run 13's for hardly nothing. i woulda been there easily in commerce a few years ago if it wasn't for the used trans i bought and installed the week before that would not go into gear/stay in 2nd gear. still somehow managed a 14.0 on a run where i had to extremely grannyshift it into gear. that's with full exhaust and a gear. now with some good tires and suspension i'm looking for 8.fiddies. w00t
