OK I'm sick of my car not performing like I think it should. I'm considering making some changes. The Bottom end is a 306 with JE flat top pistons Scat H-beam rods w/stock crank. Right now it has a ford e cam with 1.7 rockers ported stock et-7 heads with 1.940 in and 1.6 ex valves. It has some sort of Crane Cam spring with an Edelbrock RPM Performer intake that was alegedly ported by anderson motorsports. It looks real nice so I believe it was but no proof. It has a 70mm throtle body 30lb injectors 80mm proM air meter. BBk short tubes and an old Paxton SN89 supercharger w/upgraded impeller. Probably around 6psi I'm guessing. The car made 375rwhp. I am seriously considering just buying a new top end and starting over but I think my heads maybe the hold up. Do you guys have any suggestions? I am thinking I could go with a set of edelbrock heads so I would have a matching top end. But I have heard I should go with a set of AFR165 heads. Or should I scrap it all and get a holley system max top or maybe trick flow everything? I'm just a little overwhelmed with the choices and need a good solid direction to go. HELP

Edelbrock,TFS or AFR heads and sell the ball drive ;) Put a Vortech or newer Paxton on it.
It'd be a world of difference with those two changes.

Maybe one day but for now I'm going to work my way out from the short block. I know the old ball drive is not the best in the world but hey 6psi is better than no psi....For the cost of a newer blower I can get a nice set of heads a new intake and a partridge in a pear tree.

That's why you piece together a used kit :D Have maybe $1300 in the Vortech SQ setup going on my 93. But I do understand what you're saying.

The intake and cam aren't the problem. Plenty of s/c foxes using those parts. Really some AFR 185's (since you have aftermarket pistons already) 190 CC TFS twisted wedges,192cc TFS highports, etc would work nicely.

you would gain more with the supercharger change than the heads with a lot less work and unseen cost. gaskets and headbolts things like that really add up. It sounds like a pretty nice set of e7s.

I've already got the arp bolts and cometic gaskets. I've been on flea bay looking @ the afr heads and I'm more confused now than ever. There must be like 5 or six diff 165 heads. I found a new set for 1345 or something like that but I guess there is a street and a competition version? Is the only diff emissions? I'd like to remove all the emissions stuff this time so I can clean up my nasty engine bay...

I also have been known to remove the blower and stick the stock computer on the car from time to time. I'd like for the car to be able to carry itself without the blower if need be. You know like in between rebuilding that stupid thing...

Hey nc stang guy if you have time look and see what afr185 part number you recommend. Like I said I'm not going to put the emmisions stuff back on this time ....Or has anyone ever hooked the emmisions vacume up to the crankcase. We do it on motorcycles to create a vacume and it makes few hp. I noticed my crankcase has a preaty heafty vac as is though

was looking here. I'd like to be able to use the rockers I have now. 1.7 fms I guess the mount like the stock ones no stud just a bolt. You'll have to excuse my ignorance.....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AFR-SBF-Ford-185cc-185-cc-Aluminum-Cylinder-Heads-1420_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4a9d60aab3QQitemZ3 20467937971QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAcc essories

AFR #1492 would be the only 185's you could use the pedestal style rockers like you have on.

do any of the site advertisers sell these? Are the stud mount that much better? I notice all of the heads except that one are stud mount. I guess I could sell my rockers and get more if I should....

I'd think surely one of them on here could get the heads. Way I look at the rocker situation... A 3/8 stud or a 7/16 stud is a LOT stronger than a 5/16 bolt. But whether it's really needed would factor more on rpms, spring pressure, etc that you'd be running.

With 6000 rpms and just an E cam the ped mount heads would be fine.

I do personally like the stud mount just for the fact it's easier to adjust them than having to add shims to the ped mount rockers to adjust. To if you ever decide to go wilder you already have a tougher setup.

Got some 185's on the way #1422 decided to go with the stud mount after all. I'm going to take my stockers of next week if anyone is interested. 1.940 in valves 1.60 ex, crane cam springs good to .550 lift and the fms 1.7 rockers. I have all the boxes the parts came in. For some reason I keep stuff like that. Not sure what to ask for them. I'll get em off and post some pics in the for sale section.
