Here's a link to quite a discussion on the topic at F-150 forums.

I Have used MotorCraft synthetic blend in my cobra since I got it 9 years ago. When I put the cam in and rebuilt the heads the engine was completely clear of sludge. I also use the K&N oil filter so it will filter more crap out of the oil.:thumbsup1: Synthetic oil will also help you get a little more horsepower. Check it out:

Nevermind the fact that you get longer change intervals. Synthetics may cost twice as much, but you can run twice the amount of miles before it breaksdown so another way to justify the add'l cost!

So it sounds like many of you use it. Sounds like the way to go then escpecially if i may be able to get an extra horse or two out of it..

oil is cheap insurance if you change it every 3000 miles with a na setup it dosnt matter what you use itll never sludge up but if you try to push synthetics to a long oil change interval they will sludge also. think of it this way all motors have blow by that gets into the oil thats what makes it turn black syntheic oil is better at suspending the particles of blow by, so at 3000 miles with either oil the same amount of unburnt carbon is in the oil.
