I have never tried to run anything bigger than a F cam with 1.6's.....much anything else will require some notching......Guess it all depends on how much piston to valve clearance you try to maintain

Bigger is not always better...... So you are best to match up what you have, for the best performance.

One of the best off the shelf cams made. Just ask Jay Allen at Camshaft Innovations. http://www.camshaftinnovations.com/

I have run a couple of F cams I didnt like them they kill the low end tourqe if your engine is stock they are better for turbo and blower motors. With heads F is ok. The best cam I have used with a stock motor is a B cam. And to answer your qeustion I have used a X and had no trouble in a bone stock engine and actually it perfermed better then the F in a stock engine. I have the Stage 2 trick flow now with a modified engine and love it. The stage 1 I am sure would be perfect for you. I also agree with XSR bigger is not always better.

Camshaft, Track Max, Hydraulic Roller Tappet, Advertised Duration 286/ 294,Lift .542/ .563, this is what mine is and I have used this cam with stock and it done ok. I would recomend using the cam you have and changing intakes that is to much intake for your set up get a edelbrock RPM Airgap that it a great intake for street and strip it will give you back your tourqe and top end I love this intake I have used it on a stock motor and its on mine now. And dont over carb the engine alot of people stick 750 dp on 302's it a waste. I am only using a 650 on mine and it does great and its not stock engine. SO for your set up I would use a 600 no more then a 650 and then you can tune it to run like you need it. And you can do what brandon said and use your cam with a 1.7 rocker and get more lift from your cam just becarful it should be fine but check clearance to be safe. But I would for sure change intakes those are made for the track and wide open running.
ide shoot for a newer grind like a lunati 51014 or the comp xer. or one of the anderson cams. what heads are you running? stock displacement? what intake?

Running stock E7's, a bigger cam is a waist of money, and could really hurt your performance. I would save up for a better set of heads, and do both at the same time.

This is the best advice yet. Your stock heads aren't going to let you even take full advantage of that E cam, let alone something better. A cam should be looked at as part of a complete package and picked to compliment the intake and heads as part of a team. For entry level off the shelf stuff I'd say an Air Gap also along with a 600-650 carb and a set of TFS or AFR 185 heads with a Comp XE-274HR, or TFS II. If you really want to max the combo out have all the other variables pinned down and give Ed Curtis a call at flowtech induction for a custom cam. They'll want the details on ALL your combo so that the specs on the custom grind can get you all the power possible and still meet your needs. It costs a little more, but you wont leave power laying on the table...

Beg to differ. This pass was on a stock std bore 5.0 w/stock E7TE heads and an "X" cam on a 175hp nitrous shot.

I'm glad that it worked out for you in your car, but based on the profile and rpm that the X makes good power there's NO WAY I'd ever recommend to someone to install that in a car with E7's in it. I'm sure that the spray had a lot to do with your success, but I cant quantify that as again I'd never have run that combo in the first place. Opinions differ of course, and kudos for trying something different on yours. I can only offer advice based on my experiences and combos I've seen tested or used myself to good effect...

Both Buddy Rawls and Jay Allen have said it's a waist to run an aftermarket cam with bone stock heads. They are the cam experts.:yes1: Just going on what I have been told in the past.:patriot:
Glad your happy with the results you got out of your car though.:thumbsup1:

I wouldn't run anything bigger than a .480 lift with stock heads.....basicly a B cam works fairly well with stock E7's.....any more lift and the heads simply wont flow enough......
Whoever mentioned running a TFS stage 2 cam in their factory short block, what kinda valve clearance do you have with that? I bet hardly none.....I try to stay around .100 clearance, just in case of valve float, missed shifts, ect
