i think im onna be purchasing a 351 solid roller block. and i wanted to know whats the difference between the two? which would be better for a DD? and what would have to be done to convert the solid roller over to a hydr roller?

correct me if im wrong but this is simply a difference in the lifters, hydraulic rollers. use oil to build up pressure inside the roller. not sure what the benefits are of doing that, but solid rollers have no hydraulic pressure.

Only "roller" 351 block is the 94+ F4TE casting block. Nothing to do with solid rollers though. Just has the taller lifter bores so the same stock hyd roller lifters out of a normal 5.0 engine will work in it. That is with the stock spider lifter hold down and dog bones.
Any of the older than 94 351 blocks will usually need special aftermarket link bar hyd roller lifters that are pretty pricey if you want to run any off the shelf hyd roller.
Any 351 block can run a solid roller cam and lifter setup.

very interesting :thumbsup1: learn something new everyday. its just the height of the lifter bores. dont they make dog bones and the spider hold down for a application such as that? or would link bar lifters be the only way

With the shorter lifter bores of the older blocks MOST of the time you need the expensive link bar lifters. Hence...why everyone wanting to run a hyd roller cam usually looks for a F4TE roller block.... Block is cheaper than the link bar lifters, lol.

A friend of mine has a old 351w and he used the spyder tray and dog bones out of a stock 5.0 mustang. and simply drilled the two holes and tapped them to mount the tray. worked great he's going to do mine. i got a block out of a 72 mustang.

very easy mod to do if you have a older block. :thumbsup1:

Saved a lot of money doing that. cause the lifters with the link bars aren't cheep.

That works IF you don't have too big a cam that pushes the lifters too far up out of the short lifter bores on the older blocks.
