I posted a question a while back about alternators, now I've got a new question.

I took my car to Oreillys to have my factory alternator tested. They said that Its not putting out as much as it should. basically at idle my gauge drops. If I let the car sit at idle for too long or if I leave the heat on and let it idle and turn the car off, its dead and needs to be jumped off. basically, since I know my car. I know to not let it idle to long before I shut it off.

The car does have underdrive pullys and B-cam. If I put a new factory alternator off, will this help, or am I going to be forced to do a 130amp alternator upgrade?

I just figured since the parts store said my alternator was going out a new one would fix the problem, but at the same time was unsure If I have to do the 130 amp upgrade.

thanks,
Josh

i got back into clemson last night and you can grab the alternator whenever you're ready.

i can prolly have a friend run it up to easley for you if that helps.

the 130Amp alternator is a great option. i got a 200amp kit from a guy on corral for a good price.

Do you have a big stereo system, or anything drawing amperage? If not, throw the under-drive pulleys in the trash can.:yes1:

A 130 amp alternator is great upgrade to have, but if your not running anything major, that pulls power. Then your car should run fine, except for the UD pulleys.

thank guys. I dont have any big stereo equipment or anything of that nature. just the underdrive pullies. I would trash them but dont have the factory replacements.

thanks, I take it as the alternator is in good working condition? If thats the case, let me know how much you would like for it and I may come up and grab it.

Should just need to change the alt. pulley I believe. Leave the others on.

Yeah someone told me that before as well. If thats the case, where can I get one??

I still need another alternator regaurdless since mine isnt going to last much longer. Waiting to hear back from Nova before I go and drop $95 on a new one from the parts store.:lol1::thumbsup1:

The problem is the Alt. pulley is to big, causing it to turn slowly, the underdrive pulley is smaller, which would turn faster, so if you put a bigger pulley on it, its going to turn slower and work less.

If I were you I would do the 3G swap. It will do away with the connector that likes to catch fire, and you will get a 130A alterntor in the process that looks 100x better than the 2G with the ugly fan/crap.

This is true now that I think about it.
March sells a smaller pulley, for people with this problem. Is your can an auto ? I noticed they recommend a smaller one for auto cars too. 1 11/16" or 2". The others are 2 3/8"
