My oil pressure keep getting low,so i pulled the motor yesterday.Got the oil pan and main caps off today. My main bearings are shot and mess my crank up,the motor does not have alot of pass on it ( its a drag car ) so i am thinking about going with a stroker motor.I have been looking and there are a couple of different combos 393,410 418,427,446 and 454 all small blocks.Does anyone run any of these.I would like to go big but big is not always better. What do you think. :3gears:

A better question might be how much of a budget do you have for it?

There's no single answer to whats best. Will it have to fit into any certain class or just grudge racing type deal?

You can do it with less cubes but you'll need more compression and rpms.

I'd say at least a 408-434ci. As those can stil be done with a stock block.
Somewhere around 11:1 or more if you don't mind buying race gas. (my 427 is 10.75:1) All forged. Light weight internals will help. Forged I beam rods, short compression height pistons (heavier stuff if a nitrous setup)

At least some 225cc intake runner heads or larger

Solid roller with .650-.700 lift 260 ish duration or more if the compression is above 11:1 106-108 center line if always on motor 110-112 if a nitrous setup

Super Victor intake,850 cfm carb

2" primary headers,3.5 collectors,etc

If its no more than 3000-3100 lbs that should run 6.2-6.4 on motor.

Were the mains studded and/or girdled on your old block? Sounds like a possible cap walk issue......look on the surfaces of your caps and block registers (where the cap sits) and see if theres any shiny spots and/or pits on one surface, and buildup on the corresponding surface. Either that or a bad line none job...but that wouldve showed up when you checked your bearing clearances....what were they by the way?

As for a stroker...well.... the longer that arm, the harder itll be on parts if you intend to wind it tight. CI = torque, RPMS = hp
If it was mine and all motor, id go 393 or 408 with a loose converter, nasty gear, and wind it up. (NC stang guys post above- hes right on the money!) Or you could go with big CI, tighten the converter, and add a small plate system for a brutal torque monster.
Then again, if you have cubic dollars, you could build the holy grail.....434+ CI AND turn it 7500+:thumbsup1:
